When it comes to success online and in life in general there are few things that beat being consistent in getting your desired outcome.
To be consistent in anything means that you want to working on something periodically to have a desired result. But in order to do that you have to set yourself a goal.
Your goal can be anything. It can be 100,000 subscribers on YouTube for your online business or to loose 10kg in 3 months. The first step is to choose your goal. If there is a prize at the end of the tunnel it’s easier to take the necessary consistent steps there. Set goals in many areas in your life. Not just making money. To be a better husband or wife, father, a better writer or painter for example. Goal setting is something all successful people do. Have a clear vision of what you want to achieve and why.
Consistency is kind of key when it comes to your online business and one of the main factors when it comes to have success. But most of the times in life good things happen slowly. Things have worked out great for me when I slowly implement them into my daily routine without going cold-turkey and turn my life upside down for a new habit. You don’t want to do that. Changes don’t have to be hard. They can be effortless. Otherwise you run the risk of feeling helpless and overwhelmed after a few days and turning back to your old routine. So start with one thing that you want to change. Do that one thing for 3 weeks and after that it will be part of your routine. Then on to the next thing.
Staying focused is also very important. You want to be focusing at one thing at a time. If your goal is to quit smoking then don’t try to quit sugar at the same time. People have just so much willpower and it’s very easy to fall of the horse if your mind is running around from one thing to another. Pick on mountain to climb at a time. When you are finished with one then move on to the next one.
Adapt your life around your schedule. This is something people don’t realize often as they try to put their new habits or priorities into their schedule. That is not going to work. If your goal is really to change your life to the better with consistency and new habits you have to adapt your life around that. If your desire is to become more successful, more consistent, have more money and become a new person, then isn’t that something you would want long-term? Your life should be scheduled around the steps needed to become that. Slowly start tjo change your schedule. Let’s say a person goes out to clubs with their friends two times a month. That person could cut that down to one time, save money and have extra time to work on their goal. Nothing dramatic. Just a small step towards their goal. The person could invite their friends to coffee instead later on when they need a break from work. And no hangover! Think of all the time saved there. Now this is just an example but it’s just to show you that we can all schedule our time better and become more efficient.
To be consistent you also want to have your nutrition in order. Now this is of course a no-brainer but if our body is not getting the right ingredients then it will feel out of shape and it can drastically effect our productivity. Try to stay on the healthy side. Omega-3 fatty acids are very important for the brain for example and can be found in fish, walnuts and flaxseed. Think also Vitamin E (nuts and vegetable oils) and Vitamin C (berries, citrus fruits and bell peppers). Also drink enough water because dehydration has been known to impact you planning skills.
Be aware of your negative thoughts. Nobody is consistent all the time. We all fall of the horse from time to time but just get back on. Failed to be consistent for some days? Just start again. Your goal is still there. Being consistent is getting back on even though you don’t feel like doing it. Train your mind to ignore that negative voice that wants to speak to you when you are feeling down. We all have that voice but some people control it. Become that person.
The best advice I could give someone about consistency is that it’s about implementing step by step new long-term habits into your life to achieve your desired goals. Don’t make this a new years resolution. Make this your life and you will have success.
