I’ve talked about “self-liquidating offers” before on my blog where you run paid traffic to acquire leads to your business and hopefully get front-end sales (or email-follow ups) to cover the cost of the leads. What is even better than that is to get leads or subscribers without having to put money on the table or lifting your little finger.

Getting free leads (prospects for your business) is something most marketers should want and strive for because a percentage of them usually “leads” to sales thus making money. Most bigger companies run paid advertising to build their brand. Smaller businesses and marketers run paid ads to build their email lists as they are a still a very profitable way of making money. But not all people have the money to put down to buy online ads or are uncomfortable with the technology behind it. What are their choices?

I created a short video to show you what I have been doing for the last 6 months. In my last blogpost I explained about my blogging process during this time and in this video I show you some numbers that have been increasing lately.

One year ago I wrote an ebook on how I made my first 5K with a digital product that I created. I simply explain the process, what I learned, what I did, what worked, what didn’t work. I then decided to give that ebook for free to people that were willing to give me their email in return.

The creation took my about 1 month and the results were about 30-40 pages of my process that I went through selling my first digital product and thus making my first 5K. What worked and what didn’t. Nothing dramatic – just sharing in a simple way what I did. At first I wanted to sell it for $9.99 but after hearing other marketers recommend giving it away to your cold audience (people seeing your content for the first time) I decided to give it away for free. I honestly thought that I was the nicest guy on the planet – yet it seemed that nobody cared. Nobody was coming to my blog and nobody was downloading my book.

I have probably started a blog 20-30 times before in order to make money. And I have failed that many times. Because I was always thinking short-term results. Thinking about making a quick buck. But nothing worked. Finally I would give up after 1-2 months because that was the patience I was willing to give in to this and I was not thinking about my blogs or my efforts as some kind of long-term input for a stustainable online business.

When I started NextStepFreedom.com I took a decision to go about things differently. I was going to blog about my what I was doing and bring value to others even though I nobody would be coming to the blog. I would be honest about my process and just keep going even though it would not seem like anybody was coming to the blog.

For the first 4-5 months I would constantly see a big ZERO in my Google Analytics account. Sometimes I would doubt that my analytics code was setup correctly in my blog because I didn’t believe I would not be getting ANY visitors to my blog! Then I started to see 1’s and 2’s pop-up but still very slowly. Finally in the end of month 5 I starting seeing some momentum and now I’m having 3-7 visitors a day. Nothing extravagant but guess what: They are optin in to receive my book. 45 in June and 81 so far in July. This has been happening completely hands-off. And when I said in the opening of this post that this is a method to build your email list without lifting your little-finger – what I’m referring to is that you put in some hours in and create something of value. It could be 30 hours doing an ebook or 3 hours creating a case-study or a free report about something you have done that you would want to share with others. Something that can benefit or help other. There are always people looking for help – and especially free help. Start today to come up with something that you can give away for free. Then use free traffic (blogging, YouTube, Facebook etc) to drive organic traffic to generate leads. It’s that simple. Just give it time and don’t quit. Stay consistent and your will see results sooner or later.
